Visiting

Medieval Haddon Hall with its splendid Elizabethan Long Gallery and its gardens is a short drive or a five mile walk (each way!). It has good parking but is also connected by bus - perhaps the easiest way is to walk a mile down to the A6 and catch a bus to Bakewell which will stop on request opposite the entrance to Haddon Hall, either the 6.1 (Sixes timetable) or TransPeak (TP3 timetable).

Chatsworth House & Gardens is magnificent and while there is extensive parking, you can get there by bus, right to the door. Take the direct bus to Bakewell (see above) or take the scenic route of the 172 from the bus shelter opposite the bottom of the drive and change for the 170 (or 80A) in Bakewell - see Hulleys Timetables. There are various other options with different companies - see Google Maps. You could even walk one way (7 miles).

Matlock Bath, built on the floor of a limestone gorge beside the River Derwent, has many tourist attractions and interesting geological features. See for example, Peak District Mining MuseumMatlock Bath Aquarium, the Heights of Abraham cable car and caverns. You can get there direct by the 6.1 bus from Darley Dale (Sixes timetable) or by the 172 Hulleys bus service or Peak Rail train service to Matlock and then by East Midlands Railway from Matlock train station to Matlock Bath station.

Cromford Mill and Canal are also accessible by bus e.g. 6.1. There is a range of heritage sights and activities at the mill as well as shops and a cafe or you can book a canal boat ride in advance.

Amber Valley Vineyards offer tours and wine tasting with picnics. Advance booking required.

Crich Tramway Village has the National Tramway Museum and offers rides on trams in a historic setting.

Eyam - the plague village, its churchyard and museum is not to be missed and is only half-an-hour away by car. Please check opening days for Eyam Museum as they vary.

Further afield, Castleton and its caverns are about 45 minutes drive away.  Slightly nearer, Poole's Cavern and Buxton Country Park are also well worth a visit.

National Trust properties in Derbyshire include Hardwick Hall, Kedleston Hall and Calke Abbey.

There are Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Partner Gardens nearby: Thornbridge Hall Estate Gardens and Cascades Gardens at Bonsall. You might also wish to visit Forest Garden Centre.
